Volunteer FAQ

Q: When is VBS this year?

A: Monday, July 24 to Friday, July 28. VBS goes from 5:30pm – 8:30pm each day. Volunteers are asked to arrive by 5:00pm each day. VBS is from 5:30pm – 8:30pm* each day. Extra help is needed Friday evening to clean up.

Q: Where do I report each day?

A: In the SSM Sanctuary.

Q: What volunteer opportunities are available?

A: Adult and Youth Volunteers are needed to serve as Station Leaders, Station Assistants, Crew Leaders and Crew Assistants. If you can’t help during the day, many behind the scenes opportunities exist!

A limited number of volunteer positions are available so, register early! If your plans change and you can no longer help, please let us know so we can notify folks on the waiting list.

Preference is given to returning volunteers and volunteers who can help ALL week!

Q: When is the Volunteer Training?

A: All Volunteers are expected to attend ONE training session, even if you have been a volunteer for VBS before. Please indicate which training you will attend on the Volunteer Registration Form. Training will last about an hour.

Q: When are the Decorating Days?

A: We will need many hands to transform the whole Church into our MAKER FUN FACTORY themed VBS location! No artist skills needed, just a willing attitude! Join us for an hour or all day.

Monday through Friday, July 17th to 21th from 5pm – 9pm

Q: What if I can’t help the week of VBS?

A: There are many behind the scenes jobs that take place before VBS begins! If you have time to help with set up or Decorating Days, please e-mail religiousedu@ssmrcc.org. We will also have a board in the Commons with donations needed to make our week a success. Watch the parish bulletin for details.

Q: What are the expectation of volunteers?

A: All volunteers 18 years and older must complete a Screening One Background Check form (every five years) and have attended the VIRTUS Protecting God’s Children workshop. The forms are available online and at the VBS training sessions.

Youth volunteers must attend one Volunteer Training and adhere to the Volunteer Code of Conduct. Youth volunteer positions fill up quickly!

Preference will be given to volunteers who can help Monday – Friday.

Q: How can I obtain credit for my volunteer hours?

A: Volunteer Hours Letters will be available on Friday to all youth volunteers. If you need a letter, please notify when  registering. Parents needing volunteer hours at a Catholic School are encouraged to participate; we are happy to verify your hours too.

Q: What ages can I volunteer at VBS?

A: All ages middle-school through adult are encouraged to register! Adults are needed to serve as Station Leaders & Crew Leaders. Rising 9-12 grade High School Students serve as Station Leaders or Assistants & Assistant Crew Leaders. Rising 7-8 graders serve as Station Assistants & Assistant Crew Leaders.

Q: How do I know which position to sign up for at VBS?

A: A description of the various positions is listed under the Volunteer Section on the Main VBS page for Elementary Station Leaders, Elementary Crew Leaders and Preschool VBS. Please indicate your interest when registering. Your interest will be taken into consideration when scheduling volunteers, however we will place you where the need is greatest.
